Ants Canada is a site where you can buy Formicariums and equipment, but NOT live ants.
ANT PHOTOS SITE- taken by Alex Wild; a brilliant photographer of ants.
ANTS of ARIZONA- a great site on all the species of ants which can be found in the lovely USA state of Arizona. Some superb photos, which make me quite envious of you guys who live in this interesting part of the world.
ANTWEB - A great site for finding out the taxonomy of practically all ant species around the world.
MARTIN'S ANT & INSECT SHOP- This online site is run by a very good friend of mine called Martin Goss. I can personally vouch for him as being 100% reliable, and many of the species that he sells are exotic ant species from around the world, particularly some nice ants from the USA. Have a look at Martin's site and see just what he does sell.
All queens collected from the state of Arizona are freshly mated and picked up the same day that they fly. There may be some brood in the form of eggs by the time they reach the UK; but this is minimal. Martin prefers to sell young queens rather than whole colonies to keep the price down, although he does occasionally sell a few established colonies of certain species!
Interplay is a UK based company which make and sell educational toys, such as Ant World. They are currently looking into developing a new kind of ant home from an idea based on a real Leaf Cutter ant nest. The guy who runs the company is also a keen conservationist and ecologist.
A really nice site which sells ants from a German collector, and his service comes highly recommended by those who have bought ants direct from this site. Please click the picture for a direct link.
ANTSTORE- a German based company which sells ant farms, other ant keeping equipment and lots of ant queens and colonies of many European and other exotic species from all around the world.
Antsectopia - a UK based company run by a member of our Ant Hill World forum. He has a very good online shop which sells many species of ants, and this site is well worth a visit.
Edu-Sci is an English based ant shop where you can buy ants at reasonable prices, and other items connected with entomology.
Another English online shop selling ants, equipment and much more!
Above is my own forum, which is small compared to the Ant Hill World one run by my wife. Please click on the picture to find the direct link embedded inside it.
The above link picture is to a really great ant blog made by a French friend of mine, Thierry Espitalier. Some of his ant photos appear on my site, and although the blog is in French, it is well worth getting google to translate it into your own language, as it is really very good.
This is a good comprehensive list of books on ants. The top 3 are all written by British Entomologists, while the others are done by eminent ant experts from the USA.
All are excellent for information and pictures connected with Myrmecology!
Ants of the British Isles -> by G.J. Skinner. (published by Shire Natural History)
Ants -> by M.V.Brian. (published by Collins-New Naturalist series).
Ants -> by Anthony Wootton (published by Priory Press Ltd. a Young Naturalist book)-an excellent book for the young novice ant lover
Ants as pets -> by William H.Allen Jr. (published by T.F.H.Publications,Inc.) Not really a book on British ants;but good on keeping and caring for ants kept in captivity i.e "Ant Farms" or Formicariums.
Journey to the Ants -> by Bert Holldobler & Edward O. Wilson ( published by The Belknap Press of Harvard University Press). Rather an in-depth study book,as the authors are both eminent myrmecologists; but it is not difficult to read and has some really fascinating bits of information resulting from their observations of ants.
Ants at Work -> by Deborah Gordon ( published by W.W.Norton). This is a fascinating book written by an entomologist who makes the reader feel they are actually on a myrmecological field trip. A book I find hard to put down,it is so stimulating.
The Earth Dwellers -> by Erich Hoyt ( Mainstream Publishing ). This book takes you on an adventure, following the exploits of 2 myrmecologists as they explore tropical jungles in search of exotic ant species.
You should be able to buy these books at good book shops. I often by my books on-line from Amazon and have had no problems ordering from this company whatsoever !!
"Universal Soldiers" - a new site made by my wife. Her interest in making up military model figures from resin and metal goes back to 1980; and she hand paints them all, which I would never have the patience to do. Take a look at her site and see for yourself
"Planet of the Daleks" - another web site of mine; but this one is more recent and is entirely Doctor Who & the Daleks related information. It was created on May 27th, 2006, and is well worth a visit for all fans of the Dr. Who television series shown on the BBC, and also the movie films and books which were made.
"Dalek World" - this is my own forum for fans of Doctor Who, or more especially the Daleks. Why not take a look if you're into classic science fiction, as Dr. Who is real cult TV with a vast following.
